To the Glen Rock Community,
In times of tragedy, we
as a community must come together to help our neighbors in need. As many
of you already know, on Thursday, May 17, 2018, the Paramus School
District suffered a tragic loss of a teacher and a student in a field
trip bus crash. This event injured 43 other students and staff members.
With this tragedy hitting so close to Glen Rock, the Glen Rock Middle
School Student Council will be spearheading a “Neighbor to Neighbor”
fundraising campaign for East Brook Middle School.
The Glen Rock Middle
School Student Council will be hosting a drive of supplies needed for
the injured students, their parents and their families who remain in the
hospital. We hope to provide the families of those still hospitalized
with basic necessities to provide comfort during this difficult time.
Please see the list below for supply recommendations. Students and
families can drop off the supplies to a bin in the middle school main
office. The Student Council will deliver the supplies to Morristown
Medical Center where the injured are being treated. If your student
would like to write the 5th graders a card, cards will also be accepted
in the donation bin. These supplies will be collected until Thursday,
May 31, 2018.
In addition, a donation
bin will remain in the middle school office if you would like to send
any contribution to the cause. This donation money will be used to send a
check to the Paramus Children’s Health fund and provide meals for the
parents of the injured. Donations can be cash or checks made out to
“Glen Rock Middle School Student Council”.
Recommended Supplies:
- Individually wrapped snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, crackers, cookies, etc)
- Gift
Cards (Morristown Hospital said Walgreens, Walmart, Starbucks, gas
station, and Visa/American Express gift cards are most needed at this
time)
Any donation, big or
small will help this community as they begin to start the healing
process. Please stay tuned for announcements & future emails to hear
of more “Neighbor to Neighbor” fundraising events.
If you have any
questions about the fundraiser, please contact the Glen Rock Middle
School Student Council advisors: Megan Mihalik and Amanda Carullo.

Glen Rock Middle School students learn about “Breaking the Cycle” of school violence
Ann Marie D’Alisio speaks to Glen Rock Middle School students about conflict resolution through forgiveness at the “Breaking the Cycle” of violence assembly. She appears against a backdrop of portraits of individuals whose lives exemplify the message.
Last month, students in Glen Rock Middle School were given a tremendous gift. Through the first-hand experience of others, they had the opportunity to learn about “Breaking the Cycle” of violence through forgiveness. For over an hour, the students in the packed auditorium sat fixated on four speakers, whose stories of adversity and tragedy each ended with a positive message of hope through forgiveness. Enrichment opportunity for 6th & 7th graders
Join Chef It Up's “Battle of the Week”
This enrichment class through the GR Community School offers a different themed battle such as a cupcake battle, homemade dough battle, just desserts, appetizer battle & more! Under the careful supervision and enthusiasm of the Chef It Up 2 Go staff, we will break up the class into different teams and explain the rules for that battle. To add to the suspense, we keep the ingredients a secret until they are ready to battle it out! Students will have a certain time frame to brainstorm and complete their battle with their teammates to prepare their creations. We might even take away a much needed utensil or add extra ingredients… you never know what could happen with a Chef It Up 2 Go battle! Wednesdays, Mar. 14-Apr. 25 (no class Apr. 4) 3:45-4:45 p.m. 6 classes, Glen Rock M.S. Fee: $125. Register through the GRCS.
